History of REU:
- 1996--volunteer faculty group founded the program with a Faculty Development grant (P.I.; The Late Prof. Robin Sheets)
- 1999--first Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) summer program
- 2001-- Winner of the 2001 University of Cincinnati JUST COMMUNITY Award for helping to "promote the ideals of justice while making the University a more fair and caring community".
- April 30, 2001--co-sponsor of "Improving the Learning Environment--A Case Study for Change", a lecture by Karan Watson, Regents' Professor of Electrical Engineering and Associate Dean for Graduate and Undergraduate Programs, Texas A&M University (co-sponsored by the Preparing Future Faculty Program of the Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department)
- Summer 2001--beginning of UPRISE mentoring workshops, supported by a 2001 Faculty Development grant
- Spring 2002--beginning of UPRISE seminars for Undergraduates Pursuing Research in Science and Engineering, UC Dorms
- February 20, 2002--co-sponsor of "Successful Strategies for Increasing Diversity in Science and Engineering", a lecture by Maria M. Klawe, Dean of Science, Univeristy of British Columbia, and NSERC-IBM Chair for Undergraduates Pursuing Research in Science and Engineering (co-sponsored by the Preparing Future Faculty Program of the Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department, the Xavier University Mathematics and Computer Science Department, and the Xavier University students's and Minorities' Studies Program)
